This specimen was lot 2713 in Goldberg sale 109 (Los Angeles, January 2019), where it sold for $690. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italian States: Papal/Roman States. Giulio, 1702. Anno II. Clement XI. Light golden tone, sparkling gem. NGC graded MS-66." Berman notes fifteen different giulii for this pope. Berman-2421 has the reverse motto, "SI/AFFLVANT/NOLITE/ COR/APPONERE" ("Set not your heart upon wealth"). The giulio was ten baiocchi, while the piastra, the Italian equivalent of the German thaler, was 105 baiocchi (3½ testone).
