Künker sale 403, lot 1486

This specimen was lot 1486 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €300 (about US$394 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PAPST INNOCENZ XII., 1691-1700. Die Münzstätte Rom. Giulio del Giubileo AN IX/1700, Rom. Die geöffnete Heilige Pforte auf der Rückseite mit zwei Säulen. Feine Patina, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Klaus Bronny, Auktion Münzen & Medaillen Deutschland 26, Stuttgart 2008, Nr. 511. (Papal States, Innocent XII, 1691-1700, giulio of the jubille year 1700, Rome mint. On the reverse: the opened Holy Door with two pillars. Fine toning, extremely fine.)"

There is a long series of silver coinage proclaiming the various Holy Years (usually years ending in "00", "25" or "50"). Innocent XII issued a giulio for the Holy Year of 1700 (shown here) but died before he could celebrate it. His successor, Clement XI, issued another giulio for the Holy Year, KM 643.
