Papal States 1702 testone
This specimen was lot 630 in Jean Elsen sale 132 (Brussels, March 2017), where it sold for €120 (about US$152 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIE, ETATS PONTIFICAUX, Clément XI (1700-1721), (Gianfrancesco Albani), AR teston, 1702, an 2, Rome. D/ Ecu surmonté de la tiare et des clefs de saint Pierre. R/ IMPERAT AVT SERVIT Des sacs remplis de pièces de monnaie empilés sur une table. Beau à Très Beau. (Italy, Pontifical State, Clement XI (1700-21), silver testone of 1702, year 2, Rome mint. Obverse: arms, tiara and crossed keys above; reverse: sacks of coin on a table, motto around. Fine to very fine.)"
This type is also known for 1703. It is the only testone (out of fifteen types) struck in 1702.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a rare type.
