This specimen was lot 34355 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy: Papal States. Clement XI Testone Anno VIII (1708) MS64 NGC, Rome mint. A full 3 grade points above the next finest example at NGC and seemingly quite close to gem, the present offering is deserving of a place of prominence in its next owner's cabinet." Berman lists fifteen different testone for this pope; Berman-2404 has the reverse motto "QVI/MISERETVR/PAVPERI/BEATVS ERIT" ("Blessed are those who take pity on the poor"). It was struck during year VIII. The testone was thirty baiocchi, while the piastra, the Italian equivalent of the German thaler, was 105 baiocchi (3½ testone). Other testone for 1708 include KM 706, KM 707 and KM 708.
