Künker sale 354, lot 6039

This specimen was lot 6039 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €440 (about US$612 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN, KIRCHENSTAAT/VATIKAN, Clemens XI. 1700-1721. Testone AN VIII (1707/1708), Rom. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Italy, Papal States, Clement XI, 1700-21, testone of the year 8, Rome mint. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

Berman lists fifteen different testone for this pope; Berman-2393 shows Charity standing on the reverse. It was struck during year VIII. The testone was thirty baiocchi, while the piastra, the Italian equivalent of the German thaler, was 105 baiocchi (3½ testone). Other testone for 1708 include KM 706, KM 707 and KM 694.
