This specimen was lot 23903 in Heritage sale 3020, where it sold for $3,995. The catalog description[1] noted, "Prussia. Wilhelm I Proof 5 Mark 1875-B, Proof 64 NGC Brand Collection, a choice example with aged blue-green and silvery-gray patina. Very rare as a Proof, and this coin has exceptional eye appeal along with an impressive pedigree." This type was issued 1874-76 from Berlin ("A"), Hannover (shown here) and Frankfurt ("C") but is scarce. It was superseded by a gold five mark struck 1877-78. The next silver five mark was issued in 1888 (see Dav-787).
Recorded mintage: 2,098,368 plus a few proofs. The proofs are not mentioned in the SCWC.
Specification: 27.77 g, 0.900 fine silver, 38 mm diameter.
