Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 38381

This specimen was lot 38381 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $1,110. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. 2 Mark, 1877-B. Hanover Mint. Wilhelm I. PCGS MS-64." This type was struck 1876-77 at Berlin ("A"), Frankfurt ("C") and Hannover (shown here) and 1879-84 at Berlin. It is not common in better grade. The two mark was slightly larger than the old gulden popular in south Germany.

Recorded mintage: 1,301,471, a somewhat better date.

Specification: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, 28 mm diameter, reeded edge.
