Prussia 1875-B 5 mark Dav-786
The first specimen was lot 22622 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. 5 Mark, 1875-B. Hannover Mint. Wilhelm I. PCGS AU-53 Gold Shield. Deeply toned with attractive surfaces for the grade." The second specimen was lot 4194 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €340 (about US$473 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Wilhelm I. 1861-1888. 5 Mark 1875, B. Vorzüglich. Erworben 1968. (kingdom of Prussia, William I, 1861-88, five mark of 1875. Extremely fine.)"
This type was issued 1874-76 from Berlin ("A"), Hannover (shown here) and Frankfurt ("C") but is scarce. The next silver five mark was issued in 1888 (see Dav-787).
Recorded mintage: 919,482, a better date.
