Künker sale 354, lot 6145

This specimen was lot 6145 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,619 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"REICHSSILBERMÜNZEN, BADEN, Friedrich I. 1852-1907. 5 Mark 1876. J. 27. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Attraktives Exemplar mit herrlicher Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, grand duchy of Baden, Frederick I, 1852-1907, five mark of 1876, scarce in this quality, attractive example with superb toning, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck in rather limited quantities 1875-76 and 1888. A variety exists (KM 263.2) with the crossbar missing in the "A" of "BADEN", which earns a premium.

Recorded mintage: 472,806.

Specification: 27.77 g, 0.900 fine silver, 38 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 263.1, J. 27, Dav-532.
