Künker sale 354, lot 6143

This specimen was lot 6143 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,050 (about US$1,461 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"REICHSSILBERMÜNZEN, BADEN, Friedrich I. 1852-1907. 2 Mark 1876. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, grand duchy of Baden, Frederick I, 1852-1907, two mark of 1876, very scarce in this quality, choice example, about uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1876-77, 1880, 1883 and 1888 and is quite a bit scarcer than subsequent types (KM 269 and KM 272). The silver two mark replaced the old gulden (10.58 g, 0.900 fine) last struck in 1867 prior to unification.

Recorded mintage: 1,739,039.

Specification: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, 28 mm diameter.
