This specimen was lot 13134 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $1,058. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Baden. 2 Mark, 1880-G. PCGS AU-53 Secure Holder. RARE date. Attractive multicolored peripheral toning in pleasant contrast to frosty silver portrait." Five dates are listed for this rather scarce type, 1876, 1877, 1880, 1883 and 1888. The silver two mark replaced the old gulden (10.58 g, 0.900 fine) last struck in 1867 prior to unification.

Recorded mintage: 74,000.
