Sincona sale 54, lot 153

This specimen was lot 153 in Sincona sale 54 (Zurich, May 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"50 Yuan 1998. Panda. Kleine Jahreszahl. Sehr selten. Nur 2000 Exemplare geprägt. NGC MS69. Prachtexemplar. (China, gold fifty yuan of 1998, panda. Small date. Very rare. Only 2000 pieces struck, Cabinet piece.)"

The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more.

Recorded mintage: 4,168, a scarce date.

Specification: 15.55 g, 0.999 fine gold, .5000 troy oz AGW, this specimen 31.10 g.

Catalog reference: KM 1129, Fr-B5.
