This specimen was lot 30310 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $2,340. The catalog description[1] noted, "China, People's Republic gold "Small Date" Panda 50 Yuan (1/2 oz) 1999 MS69 NGC. Exceedingly lustrous and boasting a complete contrast between the devices and reflective fields." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. The gold panda is one of the most popular.
