This specimen was lot 33175 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. Wilhelm I Proof Groschen 1868-B PR68 NGC. Beyreuth, (B), mint. A majestic coin with iridescent color that is stunning." This type was struck 1861-73 at Berlin, 1866-73 at Hannover ("B") and 1867-73 at Frankfurt ("C"). It has a face value 1/30 of a thaler but has 1/35 the silver. Worn specimens fill dealer junk boxes but choice specimens such as this are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown (common tho proofs are not listed).

Specification: 2.19 g, .222 fine silver.
