Künker sale 353, lot 4165

This specimen was lot 4165 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €65 (about US$91 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Wilhelm I. 1861-1888. 1/6 Taler 1867, A. Sehr schön. Erworben am 25.6.1969. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, William I, 1861-88, one sixth thaler of 1867, very fine.)"

This type was struck 1865-68 and is rather scarce. The one-sixth thaler was one of many minor denominations struck alongside the better known thalers and gold coins. It was issued steadily 1809-68, when the unification of 1871 rendered it obsolete.

Recorded mintage: 148,000.

Specification: 5.35 g, .531 fine silver, this specimen 5.28 g.

Catalog reference: KM 495, AKS 101; J. 95; Olding 410.
