Prussia 1867-C 2 thaler Dav-783
This specimen was lot 726 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €480 (about US$620 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH Wilhelm I. 1861-1888. Doppelter Vereinstaler 1867, C. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, William I, 1861-88, double union thaler of 1867. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
After defeating Austria in the war of 1866, Prussia annexed the kingdom of Hannover and the free city of Frankfurt, among other states. The mints there were converted into branch mints (B = Hannover, C = Frankfurt) and operated 1867-78. This double thaler of 1865-71 is the most common type for Prussia and this product of the Frankfurt mint is the most common date. After unification, it circulated for six marks.
