This specimen was lot 23655 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $5,287.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Prussia. Wilhelm I Proof 2 Thaler 1871-A, Proof 64 CAM PCGS, a fabulous example with aged amber and magenta toning over highly reflective surfaces. A most appealing coin and very rare in Proof." This type was struck 1865-71. Most dates are rare. The denomination became obsolete in the reform of 1871.
