This specimen was lot 31073 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $23,500. The catalog description[1] noted, "An Early and Beautiful Gem Speciedaler. Frederik III Speciedaler 1667-GK MS65 NGC. An incredibly well-preserved offering of this one-year type featuring the laureate bust of Frederik III with dramatic, all-over pewter gray patina that is highlighted by a mixture of gold, turquoise, and peach iridescence. Massive and simply stunning with raised devices that sit atop fully lustrous surfaces. A coin worthy of immediate attention and one that collectors wait years for the opportunity to own, rare as such. Ex. Zinck Collection." Danish crowns of the seventeenth century range from the scarce to the obscenely rare. Either they were melted extensively or the poverty of the king prevented large issues or both.
