Stack's Bowers 2024 NYINC sale, lot 56080

The first specimen was lot 56080 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $1,110. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Krone, 1668-GK. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik III. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, VF Details." This type was struck 1666-69. Kroner for 1668 include KM 274 (monogram obverse, shown here), KM 275 (Legend reading right to left), KM 276 (IIII MARCK… on obverse), KM 299.1 (Legend reads right to left), KM 299.2 (Legend reads left to right). None are priced above Very Fine. Most Danish crowns of the seventeenth century are scarce to extremely rare, likely a reflection of the poverty of the king's government.
