The first specimen was lot 1613 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €4,800 (about US$6,201 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"KÖNIGREICH Frederik III. 1648-1670. 2 Speciedaler 1669, Kopenhagen. Mit Randschrift: · DOMINUS · PROVIDEBIT · ANNO · MDCLXIX ·. RR Attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Patina, kl. Schrötlingsfehler, winz. Randfehler, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of Denmark, Frederick III, 1648-70, double specie daler of 1669, Copenhagen mint. Rare, attractive example with toning, with planchet flaws and edge cracks, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 21138 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $4,560. The catalog description[2] noted, "DENMARK. 2 Speciedaler, 1669-GK. Frederik III. NGC AU-55. Lettered edge variety. Obverse: Laureate bust right; Reverse: Crowned cross with coats of arms of Schleswig, Norway, and Sweden, 15 small coats of arms around. An attractive coin with sharp design detail and pleasing original surfaces, now toned an even dark gray. Seldom available in any quality, this piece, which exhibits great eye appeal, is sure to generate spirited bidder interest." In the seventeenth century, the king of Denmark issued large silver coins from time to time but being chronically bullion starved, no issue was numerous and all are today rare. This one of a series of very similar types (Dav-3545, -3547, -3552, -3558, -3562, -3564) issued 1657-69.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 57.55 g, 0.875 fine silver, the first specimen 58.16 g, the second specimen 57.82 g.

Catalog reference: Sieg-98; KM-311; Dav-3564; Hede 81.
