SB924-1095r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1095 in Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection (Copenhagen, September 2024), where it sold for €9,000 (about US$9,974 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Lovely Fractional Ducat in Enviable Condition, DENMARK. 1/4 Ducat, 1670. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik III. NGC MS-64. Mintmaster: Gotfred Krüger (GK). A pleasing near-Gem example of this popular 1/4 Ducat, offering brilliant luster and sharp eye appeal throughout. A most enviable example of this SCARCE type, presenting nearly as well as when this piece was first produced."

The SCWC catalogs this rare type as a quarter ducat (the weight is correct) but "III MARCK DANSKE" is clearly marked on the reverse.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.87 g, 0.979 fine gold, this specimen 0.87 g.
