Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 72313
SB1122-72313r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72313 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. 1/2 Sol, 1855-PTS MJ. Potosi Mint. PCGS AU-58. A striking representation of this small Silver type. These coins were spent, not saved, and few are available this close to Mint State." This type was struck at Potosi and La Paz 1853-56 in substantial quantities. Their light weight and debased alloy discouraged hoarding.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.65 g, 0.667 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-118.1.
