Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 72315
SB1122-72315r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72315 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. 1/2 Sol, 1856/5-PAZ P. La Paz Mint. PCGS MS-64. La Paz head. As opposed to the more refined Potosi-style laureate head, this piece shows some crudeness in Bolivar's facial features. The surfaces are exceptionally bright and well-preserved argent, with a faint veneer of pale magenta color confirming originality." This type was struck at La Paz 1855-56 in moderate quantities. The light weight and debased alloy discouraged hoarding.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.65 g, 0.667 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-127.
