Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71323

This specimen was lot 71323 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. 4 Soles, 1855-PAZ F. La Paz Mint. PCGS MS-63. This gorgeous Mint State piece is sharply struck from fresh dies and offers brilliant surfaces nearly devoid of toning. A gleaming and attractive example. From the Pat Johnson Collection." The La Paz mint used two different heads of Bolivar while striking four soles; the "fine head", sent from Potosi, used 1853-55, and this "crude head", locally made, used 1855-58. This one is slightly more common.
