This specimen was lot 43047 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $6,000. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[France|FRANCE]]. Kingdom. Bell Metal Sol, 1791-Q. Perpignan Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS MS-61. Second semester. Providing great quality for metal type, this Mint State specimen offers alluring olive-yellow hues and pleasing brilliance. Margolis notes that '...this carefully struck example in 'cuivre jaune' is extremely rare in this metal, and is evidently a specimen or trial striking.' From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Schulman in 1952 for $1.25). Ex: Howard D. Gibbs Collection (Hans Schulman - 10/1952) Lot # 34." The type was struck 1777-91 and is known from Perpignan for this year only. These circulated in France until the 1850's when they were finally called in and melted.
