Stack's Bowers 2015 NYINC sale, lot 3696
Nurnberg Stacks Jan15-3696r.jpg
Sincona sale 9, lot 3816

The first specimen was lot 3696 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $470. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Nurnberg. Taler, 1624. NGC AU-58. Toned. Nice strike." The second specimen was lot 3816 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$538 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Nürnberg, Stadt Taler 1624. Kl. Rdf. Patina. Fast vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Nuremberg, thaler of 1624, small rim flaws, choice extremely fine.)"

This type is listed for 1623-25 and 1628 and is fairly common. Another thaler of 1624, Dav-5636, has the reverse legend "SEMP·AVGVST·D:P:" instead of "SEMPER AVGVST·" shown here.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-5637; KM-71.
