Stephen Album sale 50, lot 3575

The first specimen was lot 3574 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "AFGHANISTAN: Habibullah, 1901-1919, AR rupee, AH1337, a wonderful lustrous example! PCGS graded MS64, ex Hakim Hamidi Collection." The second specimen was lot 3575 in the same sale, where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "AFGHANISTAN: Habibullah, 1901-1919, AR rupee, AH1337, a lovely lustrous example! PCGS graded MS63, ex Hakim Hamidi Collection." Milled coinage was introduced to Afghanistan during the reign of Abdur Rahman (1880-1901). This type was struck AH 1329-1337. It is the first rupee that normally comes well struck. The first example has a Star of Solomon below the mosque, the second has crossed cannons at that location.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 4.60 g, 0.900 fine silver, 20 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-853.3, H-14Q.
