This specimen was lot 25572 in Heritage sale 3019 (Chicago, April 2012), where it sold for $3,737.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Felipe II gold Cob 4 Escudos 1590-D Seville, AU55 NGC, a choice example with bold four digit date, mintmark, assayer and denomination. Very scarce with such a complete strike." The 1590's were a period of transition at the Spanish mints as milling machinery was introduced. This specimen is of the older cob style.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.53 g, .931 fine gold.
