SB823-55534r.jpg

This specimen was lot 55534 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 24 Mariengroschen, 1748-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Karl I. PCGS AU-58. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1735-80 for Karl I and is common. Twenty-four mariengroschen made two-thirds of a thaler or a gulden. Another gulden of this reign featured the leaping stallion reverse (KM 895), altho it was not struck every year. Mintmaster IBH appears 1739-62.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-870; Welter-2735.
