from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 10103
SB225-10103r.jpg

This specimen was lot 10103 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €660 (about US$688). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 1/2 Krone, 1618. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC VF-35. Nice toning. From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922)." This type was struck 1618 only with various mintmarks. It was worth 1½ marks or 3/8 of a speciedaler. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 9.30 g, 0.859 fine silver, 32 mm diameter. This specimen 9.11 g.

Catalog reference: KM-58; Hede-107A; Sieg-79.1; Schou-65; Bruun-5020.
