Mexico 1877-Mo M 2-1/2 pesos

This specimen was lot 39468 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 1/2 Pesos, 1877-MoM. NGC Unc Details--Surface Hairlines. SCARCE. Cleaned with light directional hairlines but with great detail." The type is also recorded from Culiacan, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Hermosillo and Zacatecas but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. The SCWC does not award this date a premium. The series, never popular, ended in 1893.
