Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 41295

This specimen was lot 41295 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 4 Mariengroschen, 1723-EPH. Zellerfeld Mint. August Wilhelm. PCGS AU-55. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1714-32 and is fairly common. Another four mariengroschen (KM 764), struck 1717-23, featured the leaping stallion. Four mariengroschen made one ninth of a thaler or one sixth gulden.
