Mexico 1821Ga 8 reales rev DSLR.jpg

This type was minted in large quantities in Mexico City and branch mints 1811-22. This date from Guadalajara is common but less so than the famous 1821Zs-RG, the most numerous of all colonial eight reales. It is likely that many of these coins were struck after the surrender of the Spanish; armies must be paid even if new coin designs are not ready.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.896 fine silver, .780 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-16038, KM 111.3.
