Sincona sale 23, lot 3370

This specimen was lot 3370 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 90 CHF (about US$113 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"VATIKAN - KIRCHENSTAAT, Giulio II. 1503-1513 Giulio o. J. Ancona Sehr schön. (Papal States, Julius II (1503-13), giulio without date, Ancona mint, very fine.)"

The piastra was 10½ giulii and the scudo was ten giulii. Berman[2] lists eleven different giulii for the reign of Julius II, patron of Michaelangelo and Bramante.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.95 g, .920 fine silver[2], this specimen 3.25 g.
