from Stack's Bowers 2016 ANA sale, lot 22610

This specimen was lot 22610 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $164.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "ITALY. Papal States. Rome. Giulio, ND. Pope Julius II (Giuliano della Rovere) (1503-13). NGC EF-45. Saint Peter and Paul facing, reverse crossed keys with crown above. Slightly double struck obverse, with clear readable legends and choice centering. From the Rockaway Collection." The piastra was 10½ giulii and the scudo was ten giulii. Berman^[2] lists eleven different giulii for the reign of Julius II, patron of Michaelangelo and Bramante.
