This specimen was lot 417 in Sincona sale 69 (Zurich, May 2021), where it sold for 2,350 CHF (about US$3,119 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''FRANKREICH. Louis XIV. 1643-1715. Louis d'or aux insignes 1705 L, Bayonne. Flan neuf. Vorzüglich.'' (kingdom of [[France]], Louis XIV, 1643-1715, gold louis of the insignia of 1705, Bayonne mint, new planchet. Extremely fine.)"</blockquote> This type is usually found struck over older coins, a process involving all French silver and gold coinage during 1690-1709. These "reformations" were the result of financial manipulations too tedious to discuss here. This is a somewhat scarce date of a scarce type.

Sincona sale 69, lot 417

This specimen was lot 417 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 2,350 CHF (about US$3,119 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH. Louis XIV. 1643-1715. Louis d'or aux insignes 1705 L, Bayonne. Flan neuf. Vorzüglich. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, gold louis of the insignia of 1705, Bayonne mint, new planchet. Extremely fine.)"

This type is usually found struck over older coins, a process involving all French silver and gold coinage during 1690-1709. These "reformations" were the result of financial manipulations too tedious to discuss here. This is a somewhat scarce date of a scarce type.

Reported Mintage: 63,738 fn + no rf.

Specification: 6.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, designed by J. Röettiers, this specimen 6.72 g.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 416, Gadoury 254 (R4). Fr-439.
