Shown is a quart d'écu aux 8 L (quarter écu with 8 L's) struck at the Lille mint in the last years of Louis XIV's reign. The type was struck 1704-05 in substantial numbers. There are also French tenth, half and one écus struck during this period with this design. This date is a common date. The earlier quart d'écu aux 8 L of 1690-93 featured a different reverse. Some mints, including Lille, struck this type using dies engraved for the quart d'écu aux palmes, which obverse is very similar.

Recorded mintage: unknown but all rf.
