This diminutive coin, called a liard de France au buste agé, was the French equivalent of a farthing. This coin was the first issue of liards since 1658. The Lille mint, which later adopted the "W" mintmark, was at this time using a crowned "L". The date is common for the type, which was struck until 1707. The later liards of Louis XVI were 3.80 g.

Recorded mintage: 1,648,778.

Specification: 3.82 g (4.07 g per Gadoury), pure copper, 20-23 mm diameter, designed by Joseph Roëttiers.
