Jean Elsen sale 135, lot 1263
Ensisheim in upper Alsace. The political situation is of 1477, on the collapse of the Burgundians. Upper Alsace would be ruled by the Hapsburgs until 1648 when it passed to France.

This specimen was lot 1263 in Jean Elsen sale 135 (Brussels, December 2017), where it sold for €105 (about US$146 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SAINT EMPIRE, Ferdinand II (1619-1637), AR Taler, 1621, Ensisheim. Au titre de landgrave d'Alsace. D/ B. l., dr. et cuir. à d., avec une grande fraise. R/ Grand écu couronné, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. Nettoyé. Légers défauts de flan. presque Très Beau. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand II, 1619-37, silvr thaler of 1621, Ensisheim mint, in the name of the landgrave of Alsace. Obverse: laureate, draped, armored and ruffed bust to right; reverse: large crowned arms, Order of the Golden Fleece around. Cleaned, planchet defects, about very fine.)"

This type is mentioned by Davenport for 1621 only yet is common. The Ensisheim mint also issued Dav-3168, -3170, -3345, -3346 in 1621.
