Stack's Bowers April 2021 Hong Kong sale, lot 54089
SB421-54089r.jpg

This specimen was lot 54089 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Gold 5 Yuan, 1994. Unicorn Series. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. A brilliant Proof with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices." The gold unicorn was struck in this size in 1995 (KM 795) and 1996 (KM 939). Poor sales eventually moved the regime to terminate the series.

Recorded mintage: 31,100.

Specification: 1.56 g, 0.999 fine gold, 0.050 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-B106; KM-674; NPB-11a.
