Sincona sale 70, lot 3427

This specimen was lot 3427 in Sincona sale 70 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 32,000 CHF (about US$42,471 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Lucerne | Stadt und Kanton. 24 Münzgulden (Doppelduplone) 1794, Luzern. Gekröntes, mit Girlanden behangenes Luzerner Wappen. Rv. Wertangabe mit Jahreszahl zwischen Lorbeerzweigen. Unten das Mzz. B. Sehr selten. NGC MS62. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Switzerland, canton of Lucerne, 24 Münzgulden or double duplone of 1794, Luzern mint. Obverse: crowned and garlanded arms of the canton; reverse: value and date in laurel wreath. Very rare, uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"

This type was struck 1794 and 1796 and is rare. It was equal to the double duplone struck in other cantons such as Bern.

Specification: 15.28 g, 0.900 fine gold, this specimen 15.17 g.
