This specimen was lot 3363 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 775 CHF (about US$1,024 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Luzern, Batzen 1796, Luzern. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung mit herrlicher Patina. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, batzen of 1796, Luzern mint. Rare in this condition, About uncirculated, Beautiful condition with magnificent patina.)"
This type was struck 1796-97, after the French had invaded and occupied the Swiss Confederation. It is the only issue of this denomination during the Old Regime. It was accompanied by a half batzen (KM 89), 20 kreuzer (KM 88), 40 kreuzer (KM 91), 20 batzen (KM 90) and 40 batzen (KM 93/Dav-1775).
