This specimen was lot 637 in Aureo y Calicó sale 243 (Barcelona, April 2012), where it sold for 1,400 € (about US$2,115 including buyer's fees). The catalog[1] noted,
"Carlos III (1759-1788). 1787. Potosí. PR. 8 escudos. Hoja en reverso. Parte de brillo original. Escasa. (MBC/MBC+). (Eight escudos of 1787, Potosí mint. Plugged on reverse, scarce, very fine.)"
While silver coins from Bolivia exist in vast quantities, gold from Bolivia is scarce. For the colonial period, Colombia may be regarded as the most prolific issuer, followed by Mexico, followed by Peru. Bolivia, Chile and Guatemala are minor sources.
