(Eighty reales of 1845, Barcelona mint, very handsome, original luster, rare thus, about uncirculated.)</blockquote>  This type was struck at Barcelona (shown here), Madrid and Seville 1837-49 in sufficient numbers that it is one of the more common Spanish gold coins of the period. The specimen shown was lot 411 in Aureo y Calicó sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 430 euros (about US$710 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1845. Barcelona. PS. 80 reales. Muy bella. Brillo original. Rara así. S/C-. (Eighty reales of 1845, Barcelona mint, very handsome, original luster, rare thus, about uncirculated.)

This type was struck at Barcelona (shown here), Madrid and Seville 1837-49 in sufficient numbers that it is one of the more common Spanish gold coins of the period. It is the same size as the old two escudos struck in Ferdinand's time.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 21 mm diameter, 6.77 g, .875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW.
