The specimen shown was lot 411 in Aureo y Calicó sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 430 euros (about US$710 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1845. Barcelona. PS. 80 reales. Muy bella. Brillo original. Rara así. S/C-. (Eighty reales of 1845, Barcelona mint, very handsome, original luster, rare thus, about uncirculated.)
This type was struck at Barcelona (shown here), Madrid and Seville 1837-49 in sufficient numbers that it is one of the more common Spanish gold coins of the period. It is the same size as the old two escudos struck in Ferdinand's time.
