This specimen was lot 1192 in Sincona sale 85 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 30,000 CHF (about US$40,399 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN, Sultan Ahmad Shah, 1327-1344 AH (1909-1925). 5 Ashrafi 1337 AH (1918/1919 AD), Tehran Mint. Bust type with Lion & Sun reverse. On the 10th Anniversary of his Reign. Extremely rare. NGC MS64+. Magnificent condition. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 245. From the Leeds collection, auction Baldwin's, Dubai, March 2000, lot 595. Finest certified by NGC."
In 1337, as part of the series commemorating the tenth anniversary of his reign, the shah issued a series of gold one, two, five and ten ashrafi. The ashrafi was a denomination not used in Iran since the days of the Safavids nor used again. It was better known in India. The SCWC does not give the weight standard so we don't know if this five ashrafi was equivalent to the five toman (14.37 g, 0.900 fine gold).
