This specimen was lot 30718 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $646.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Edward VII Shilling 1902, MS65 NGC. A very deep, even purple toning around the edges of coin, with underlying luster." This type was struck 1902-10 in respectable numbers but has always been expensive in nice condition. The denomination was converted to copper-nickel in 1947 and ceased in 1967.

Recorded mintage: 7,890,000 plus 15,000 proofs.

Specification: 5.65 g, 0.925 fine silver, .168 troy oz ASW, 23.5 mm diameter.
