This specimen was part of lot 30864 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), which sold for $7,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Edward VII 12-Piece Certified gold & silver Partial Matte Proof Set 1902 NGC, 1) Maundy Penny - PR61; 2) Maundy 2 Pence - PR61, S-3988; 3) Maundy 3 Pence - PR61, S-3987; 4) Maundy 4 Pence - PR62, S-3986; 5) Shilling - PR60, S-3982; 6) Florin - Proof Details (Obverse Stained), S-3981; 7) 1/2 Crown - PR61, S-3980; 8) Crown - PR62, S-3979; 9) gold 1/2 Sovereign - PR62, S-3974A; 10) gold Sovereign - PR61, S-3969; 11) gold 2 Pounds - PR61, S-3968; 12) gold 5 Pounds - PR60, S-3966. Only omitting the Sixpence. Mostly average grades for this type, the sandblasting process having disrupted the surfaces on most examples leading to generally lower certifications. Nonetheless appealing, the gold with matte butterscotch color, the silver with some deep blue tone (the Florin with a scratch-like stain in accordance with its grade). Accompanied by its red leather box of issue." These were issued in sets in honor of the start of the new reign. Some sets contained only the silver issues, others included the gold; most have been broken up over the years.
