This specimen was lot 75124 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Penny, 1902. London Mint. Edward VII. NGC MS-65 Red Brown. Pale bronze and steel brown surfaces are somewhat bright and fresh for the color designation, all while smooth satin surfaces present excellent technical quality for the Gem level. Ideal for either date or type set purposes, this extremely well preserved 1/2 Penny is sure to enhance the next cabinet it enters." This type was struck in 1902-10 in considerable numbers and is the only half penny of the reign. A scarce variety exists for 1902 where the water line behind Britannia is slightly lower than usual. It is called the "low water line" or "low horizon" variety.

Recorded mintage: 13,673,000 including low horizon (scarce).
