Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74825

This specimen was lot 74825 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Maundy Penny, 1900. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS PROOFLIKE-65. Issued during the penultimate year in the reign and life of Victoria, this exceptional Gem glistens with opulent brilliance and an alluring degree of vibrant toning." This type was struck 1893-1901. By Victoria's reign, the silver penny had no circulating function and appeared only in the Maundy sets.

Recorded mintage: 17,000.
