Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 23695

This specimen was lot 23695 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Sovereign, 1900. London Mint. Victoria. NGC AU-55. Old veiled bust type. A wholesome lightly circulated survivor with plenty of luster in the protected areas. From the Collection of Richard Jewell." This type was struck 1893-1901 in considerable numbers. This "old bust" is the most familiar and most common of Victoria's sovereigns.

Recorded mintage: 10,847,000.

Specification: 7.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.2355 troy oz AGW.
